Councillor for the West Tamar

Property Council at it again.

Well, stupidity never ceases to amaze me. Last night on the news I listed to Mary Messiah  (sorry, that should be Massina) from the Tasmanian Property Council (also spokeswoman for Tasmanians for Reform) lambaste councils by saying the proposed water reforms should see the councils give up returns to lower water charges. This is hypocrisy at its best, they want rates reduced yet want to take away a major revenue stream that helps councils keep rates low.

These water reforms were not the choice of councils, they were fostered upon us by the State Government after continual lobbying by the Property Council, yet it is councils who get the blame for price increases and inefficiency in a system we didn’t want in the first place.

Perhaps instead of sitting in their gilded palace, the Property Council could turn the spotlight on themselves for inefficiency or even start berating the most inefficient level of government we have ever had here in Tasmania, the current State Government, and leave councils to do the job that they do best, delivering core services to the residents of their municipality.

As a councillor for the West Tamar, I am proud to be a member of a team that  forms one of the most effective councils in the Tasmania and I will not stand by while people who have not right to take pot shots at this council
